Valentine’s Day Details and a New Love in My Life

LOVE IS IN THE AIR!  Per last year’s Valentine’s Day post, I’m not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day because it’s a little cheesy, sets people up to not meet their partner’s expectations and allows restaurants to charge a ton of money for mediocre prix fix menus.  But, even though I don’t particularly love the holiday itself, I do love love, and decorating with hearts and pink and red is a fun way to beat the winter blues and the post-Christmas nakedness around the house.

I would have posted my Valentine’s Day decor a bit earlier, but my baby arrived at the very end of January (11 days late!) so I’ve not been doing much sitting at the computer as of late.  Here are a few pics of how I added a little love around the house!

I took this shot during the snowstorm that crushed the Northeast the weekend before my daughter was born.  We had almost 30 inches of snow here in the Philly suburbs, and I was basically holding my breath all weekend hoping she didn’t decide to arrive during the blizzard.  There was literally no way we would have been able to get out of our neighborhood.

I added touches of red and pink to my foyer, which is one of my favorite places to spice up for a holiday.

A banner of paper hearts and a few gift-wrapped books are simple, low-cost ways to add flirty flair to your decor for hearts day.

I also got conversation heart gift tags from none other than the Target One Spot and hung them around the house.

I also swapped out my normal white or brown photo frames for more red!

In the living room I added some more paper hearts and, of course, updated my gallery wall chalkboard.

I also used Valentine’s Day cards to put a little more love in the gallery wall.

These cute black and white striped cards are from the Target One Spot and the red gift wrap is from Michael’s.   My friend Ashley made the gorgeous teal air planter.  She’s a seriously talented ceramist!

My favorite Valentine’s Day addition is the #LOVE mantel decor, which I made myself with a hashtag sign from the Target One Spot and letters I cut from a sturdy gift box and wrapped with yarn.  I have a lot of fun socializing with other home decor bloggers on Instagram, and we all speak fluent hashtag so I thought this was a cheeky way to celebrate the holiday!

I also decked my Norfolk pine trees out with hearts because I wasn’t ready to give them up after I took down my Christmas mantel.  Sparkly beaded garlands left over from Christmas also hung around a bit longer this year.

Lastly, there’s even more love around the house this Valentine’s Day with the addition of my baby girl.  I was really worried about having a second baby because my son is the love of my life, but everyone told me my heart would double the day she was born.  They were wrong, I’m pretty sure it quadrupled!   Baby Girl

Wishing you all love and expensive chocolate this coming Sunday!
